Our Objectives and Technology
Ynet is a limited company established with the objective of providing Waiheke
island with genuine, low latency three megabit broadband.
The limited capacity of the telephone lines on the island meant ADSL technology is, at best inadequate for
the transmission of high throughput data, particularly on upload. The obvious
answer was wireless transmission but given the topography and the requirement for
low power, line-of-sight signal distribution, a viable network was always going to be
a big ask. However, with judicious site selection, multiple transmission sites and
utilising robust, proven Trango technology mostly in the 5.8,5.4,2.4,5.3,900 bands, that
objective has been largely achieved.
There are currently 20 transceiver sites with
at least four more projected, which will give Waiheke near 90% coverage. The
network is also fully capable of supporting VOIP Phone and PABX technonlogy
which will be a desirable option, particularly for those at the eastern end of the
island where phones are often less than reliable. VOIP we recommend World Exchange but you can use any VOIP provider of your choice.
Setting up with Ynet
There is an initial cost of $500 involved in connecting to Ynet The equipment and installation for Ynet Broadband is subsidised to reduce your set up costs
we install a antenna on your roof to deliver broadband through the air, rather than through your phone line.
If you decide to suspend your account there is a $100 reconnection fee this is the same if you move house and need the equipment moved please check with us to make sure your new property has coverage.
